Grains of Paradise

Paradise? That’s big talk from a little spice. Of course I had to give it a try. I cooked up some “Asparagus In Paradise” — only I didn’t have any almonds or lemongrass, so I stuck with the basics: asparagus, olive oil, garlic and the heavenly nuggets. Good stuff. But such strong flavors that I couldn’t tell if the little ground up grains were truly divine. So I stuck a whole one in my mouth and crunched it up. Spicy. And something else … I’m so terrible at identifying flavors, but “earthy” and “herby” sprang to mind. And a touch of citrus? My husband was reminded of rosemary. Anyway, it’s interesting. Paradise, though? Hmmm …
